First of all, they seriously should have went with a more plausible number, like no more than 50 movies, since there just isn't atleast 100 good science fiction films out there... in my opinion atleast.
I'll list the top 10 here:
10: Aliens (1986) (A pretty good action sequel to the classic Alien)
9: Star Wars (1977) (One of the most inventive and robust sci-fi flicks ever; ultimately very enjoyable for a broad audience)
8: The Host (2007) (I missed it in theatres, but it is coming out on DVD later this month; great-looking Korean film)
7: Children of Men (2006) (Most of the world is in ruin and no one has given birth in 18 years; a mysterious, apocalyptical movie set 20 years in the future)
6: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) (Dark-toned sequel to the original Star Wars movie)
5: Minority Report (2002) (Never saw this one either, but it looks imaginitive)
4: Alien (1979) (Ahh, now this is great science fiction)
3: Metropolis (1926) (The biggest-budget silent film ever made with a price tag of around $200 million if adjusted for inflation over the years; I never saw this movie, but it looks kind of surreal-cool)
2: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) (Super deep story and a truly original film--this one is a true modern classic; if you're not good at following complex plots, then this movie will leave you a bit confused)
1: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) (I'm not going to lie--I really don't care for this movie)

I just saw Children of Men and it is a cool movie, but I wouldn't say it's one of the greatest sci-fi films ever.
PS: My favorites from the top 10 are Alien, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Star Wars (Aliens and The Empire Strikes Back to a lesser extent).
